The dust is starting to settle. For a while, Thailand’s crackdown on nominee shareholders created plenty of noise, nervousness and some very dramatic headlines. But the picture is becoming clearer. The government is looking for illegal structures, fake shareholders, hidden control and people deliberately trying to get around Thai law. That is very different from chasing a respectable foreign resident who has made Thailand his home, has a family, a dog, pays his bills, runs his business properly, respects Thai law, Thai people and Thai manners, and simply gets on with life. That distinction matters. Foreigners who live here properly and contribute positively to Thailand should not automatically feel that a spotlight is suddenly pointing at them. Illegal is illegal. Properly structured is properly structured. Perhaps the market needed the dust to settle before everyone could see that difference again. The crackdown is not over, and nor should it be if illegal structures exist. But the panic? That seems to be calming down. And for Pattaya property, confidence is worth a lot.
